Emerson Quote!

to-be-great-is-to-be-misunderstood-8

“To be great is to be misunderstood.”

(Emerson)

This quote reflects Transcendentalism, because it explains how having consistent and similar work to other people is conforming, and conforming is what you are supposed to avoid in becoming a self-reliant individual. He references people like Jesus and Copernicus to prove his point. They were both brilliant people that were misunderstood, because of their work being different from everyone else’s. They were truly self-reliant individuals!
